The candidate will work in the framework of a new project funded by the European Institute of Technology (EIT) in the area of “Street Smart Retail”. This project, requiring both scientific and management skills, is focused on social media analysis for user profiling, with the goal of improving user engagement during sports events generating impact on the market. The project involves also the Digital Humanities research unit at FBK, which will be in charge of the front-end development and of investigating the cognitive aspects of the project (e.g., how to foster engagement and display effective analyses). From a scientific point of view, the activities will focus on the following topics: • User profiling: the goal is to extract information, such as demographics, interests, job, mood, and emerging trends from social media using machine learning and natural language processing. • Content generation: the goal is to allow retailers to create personalized contents to engage potential customers on social networks. From a managerial point of view, the activities will include: • Participation to the management of research projects (participation to the scientific management, coordination of activities, cooperation with other partners, periodic reporting). • Management of teams of researchers allocated to projects. • Set-up and negotiation of new project proposals. • Supervision of MA and PHD students involved in the project. Job requirements: • Ph.D degree in computer science, information and communication technology, computational linguistics, or proved equivalent experience. Students who will discuss their Phd thesis nextly can be admitted as candidates. • Good record of high-level scientific publications in top journals and conferences. • Extensive experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Recommendation Systems, Natural Language Processing, Information Extraction, Knowledge Management and Semantic Web. • Experience in the management of research projects and project proposals. • At least 3 year experience in Java. • Good competencies on SQL, NoSQL, and graph databases • Basic competencies of Web Programming: JavaScript, CSS, PHP. • Availability to supervise PhD students and internships. • Oral and written proficiency in English. • Excellent ability in coordinating other researchers and students in the delivery of work (motivating people, supervising and monitoring performance against deadlines). • Communication skills (presenting, persuading and influencing). • Organizational skills including planning, scheduling and reporting (also under pressure). Additional Requirements: • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with project partners. • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work effectively in team, as well as independently. • Commitment to rigorous scientific research. • Knowledge of deep learning tools and techniques for classification. Type of contract: fixed-term contract. Duration: 1 year (with possible extensions, depending on the outcome of the project), starting preferably from May 2016. The start and duration of the contract depend on the approval of research projects that support the position. Gross annual salary: about € 38.100,00 (plus possible awards).
